Artist Bio

Jason Tenison has been creating Southwest art since he was old enough to draw. As a child he was enthralled by the Native American culture and would check out books about Native Americans as reference for his drawings.

Jason, through much trial and error, is a self taught artist. His style has been greatly influenced by the art displayed in the Gilcrease and Philbrook Museums in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He would go to these museums, closely study their art, then go home and try to re-create their styles on his own works.

The environment in which he was raised has greatly influenced Jason’s subject matter. He was born in the Cherokee Nation capital of Tahlequah, Oklahoma and has lived most of his life in Northeastern Oklahoma. He attended college at New Mexico State University, which gave him many opportunities to study the unique colors and patterns present in the Southwest.

The meshing of life experiences has led Jason to be the artist he is today. One will notice that his works are primarily focused around old west, hunting, and firearms with a Southwest flare.
